limbsaver

Can I sand down a Limbsaver to fit the stock better? Only a little adjustment is needed but it seems so soft - I don't want to ruin it.

Sure, you can sand it by hand, and the use of Kerosene, or, WD-40 as a wetting agent while sanding makes the finish a lot nicer.

if you haven't tried it yet, you can also freeze it first for a few hours. whether or not that makes a big difference I don't know, I did it on one, not another. not a noticeable difference. the WD-40 is a big difference though. If using a belt/disc sander spray itwith te WD-40 and you'll be able to tell again when it needs more as it will not be as smooth a finish. You can also use a sanding block and do by hand if no access to belt/disc sander.

Mine came out as good as ones I've paid to get put on for me. definitely my favorite pad now.

The limbsaver material is more difficult to sand than pachmayer, but as long as you use sharp new abrasive it works OK. It also takes a little coarser grit IME.
