Centurion Aluminum Mauser bottom metal- How durable if cerakoted?
Just picked up a pieced together Mauser sporter with a Centurion Aluminum bottom metal. Looks much like an '09. If I take the paint off and Cerokote it, how durable might it be? Would it be comparable to M70 Featherweight aluminum so treated? Thanks
Matt

Cerakote sucks on aluminum.

Doesn't Brownells sell a product specifically for alumninum? Alumahyde or something similar?

Some say Aluma-Hyde is the greatest thing since sliced bread, others say it sucks. I've used it, but I think a rattle can of high quality paint works pretty much just as well.

Paint is paint. Doesn't seem to matter what fancy name you stick on it.

Sorry.

When I was a kid. I had the stick. I had the rock. And I had the mud puddle. I am as adept with them today, as I was back then. Lets see today's kids say that about their IPods, IPads and XBoxes in 45 years!

Yep; I have used most all of it; the bake on types do last a bit better, and the Brownells stuff is easy to apply and looks good; (do not drop it in the rocks) but in the end, paint is paint.
I think I heard that somewhere before......

Matt, a guy I know has the Birdsong coating on his ARs (including aluminum parts). It looks really good and he says it is very durable.

Anodizing is harder than the Aluminum itself.

Agree with Wildcat. Have it anodized black. Anodizing converts the aluminum to aluminum oxide, also known as sapphire. Only diamond is harder. It will outwear several pant jobs.
