Help me please with a marking on a Mauser bolt
Folks, I have a spare Mauser bolt sent to me by a dealer and on the root of the bolt handle is a Z enclosed in an oval and below that is stamped "S2"

Anyone have a clue as to the origins of the bolt? It is going to fit a Colombian FN receiver - I'll check it when I get home, but I don't see a problem with fit.

Thanks

Pete

I might be wrong, but I think that's the proof stamp from the czech brno mauser factory.

Circle Z is indeed a Czech proof mark. No idea about 'S2' -- might it actually be '52' as in the last two digits of a serial number (although the Czechs usually marked the whole number along the top of the bolt handle)? It may be of Turkish origin, which could explain the odd numbering. The Turks bought large numbers of 98 bolts from the Czechs in the 1920's, for replacements.

It should fit the Colombian Mauser, if it is a VZ-24 type action. Could also be an FN action, which may be intermediate in length -- this would use the same bolt as an M-48 or M-24/47 Yugo.
