Oh, that just pisses me off !
coffee

I was just doing a high dollar, drill and tap on a fine Cooey 60 when I discovered that my Weaver 6x48 screw tray was getting a bit thin. So I went out into the darkest woods with my shovel, to the secret spot, next to Zipperlip Creek and dug up my horde of 2 or 3 thousand, brand new 6x48 Weaver screws. While I was separating them it occurred to me that. If I was a gunsmith and had a horde of screws like that and other gunsmiths ever found out that I had it and they didn't. I would be the most hated man on the planet !

shocker

One problem. ITAR won't let you bring them back into the USA because they're gun parts Tom. But I like the way you think. LMAO

Oh there are a whole RAFT of import regulations regarding firearms and their parts too. All of them were written just to piss off Tom too ! I'm sure they wrote one JUST for my screws. And if there isn't one, I'll call The Don and have him write one up special! LMAO ROFF

Been up and down that metric argument 100 to many times before. The pitch of M4-.7 in inches is .0275 which works out to 36.36 threads per inch. The average drill & tap depth in guns is .1 inch. .1÷.0275= 3.63 threads for holding.

6x48 threads have a pitch of .0208 so .1÷.0208= 4.8 threads for holding. On top of that the more threads per inch that you have, the more tightening force you get.

Finally, there are only a couple European manufacturers that I know of who are using M4-.7 screws to hold sighting devices.

I can of course special order M4-.7 taps. I'm pretty sure that I could special order some M4-.7 screws in Allen head or torx. Not so sure about traditional slotted screws.

And finally p dog shooter my friend, I think Brownells just got fed up with the fastner companies Like Monster undercutting the hell out of them so they said to-hell-with-screws. LOL

LOOK SEE: If you call them and start to haggle, you can get 1000 weights pretty cheap.

And for your next project, after going through the whole pile, you will likely not be able to find a screw that is long enough!

Monster Fasteners sells 6x48 screws up to 3/4 inch long. But I bought about 50, 3/4 inch ones from Brownells years ago. I think I might have used 2 for some special project or another. So I'm probably sitting on 48 of em still.

popcorn So I'm good. LOL

I have a large plastic tray, with separate compartments in it.

I through every screw I find that I have no use for, and by now after so many years, that tray has become a treasure chest for anyone looking for small screws.

A friend says "if it is not in there, it does not exists" clap

It's not abnormal at all Mark. Saeed understands. It's not about having them all, that would be greedy of course. It's about having more than everyone else that counts ! ! ! !

Just think of the hunting trip you could take
if you could sell 'em all for monsters listing price! THEN you;d be SOL for screws when needed. Oh well, just hang on to them, right?

I'm the same way with ammo brass and short pieces of steel for welding projects. Couple ton stuffed under the bench.

I sincerely hope the next guy that gets my place appreciates all this hoarding and not some jerk off scrapping it all just to make the place sell quicker.
