Browning A-Bolt stock bedding?
Hi,

I'm trying to glass bed an A-Bolt and need to know where to get sone stock aligning screws and what size they are? I have Rem, Win, Mauser, Endfield and they don't fit the thread pitch. Does anyone know where I can get some or what size so I can build some?

Thanks,

The Big Dog

Those Brownings have different sized front and rear guard screws if memory serves me. I seem to recall the front being a ¼-20 and the rear being 24 TPI but I do not remember the diameter, other than it was different than the front.

If you take the screws to a good hardware store they can check the threads and sell you the proper sized dies and some drill rod and you can make your own aligning screws.

Yup. The hardware store will call the rear a #10-24.

Here's a question I hadn't thought about before--is that 1/4" front screw way bigger than most actions or what? It seems most generic pillars were sized with a smaller screw in mind.

JonA,

Quarter inch is a pretty standard size for most American made bolt actions.

I just got finished bedding an A-Bolt .22, I don't know if the screw sizes are the same. I found a .25" rod with the proper thread pitch but on the Browning screw the threads seem to a smaller diameter than the main bolt body, it didn't fit.
I found that the easiest thing was to order a set of screws from Browning and cut the heads off.

Recoil Rob,

Like I said, the front and rear screws on these Brownings are not the same size. I’m 99% sure the front is a 1/4x20 though.

Alignment screws/pins are easier to work with if they are allot longer than the actual guard screws.
