what welding rod would you use to build up the sear on a trigger. I have an old Jap that needs to be built up about .0500"

I would be concerned about attempting to weld on the sear. The very least you would need to re-treat the metal. Why not spend $5.60 and order a replacement from

I have to agree. Replacement would probably be the best route to go. But, to answer your question, when I absolutely have no choice but to rebuild, or, resurface a low impact sear, I use a low TIG setting and piano wire. The piano wire flows really well, there is no need to re-heat treat the piece as the finished surface is quite hard and very durable.

I'm going to try the welding first,(nothing to lose except a little time), if that dosen;t work then order another.
