I've been looking at a little 44 mag trapper and just wondering if it is possible to open it up for the 445 supermag? Looks like the shell carrier would need to be modified.....maybe a carrier for a 30-30 trapper might work??? Wouldn't be much of a problem to extend the chamber.....sure would make it a little powerhouse!!!!

Might maybe work,if the reciever could handle the extra pressure. But why wreck an otherwise nice little carbine? derF

The 445 SuperMag was designed to run the same pressures as the 44 mag.....so there is no problem there.

Sierra load data shows a 300 grain bullet from a 14" 44 mag at a top speed of 1400 fps. The same bullet from a 14" 445 goes 1850 fps!!! Now do you see the "powerhouse" aspect of the conversion?

Of course the 444 or 45-70 "guide guns" would be another big step up in performance.....but at the price of a bigger, heavier rifle with greatly increased muzzle blast and recoil!!!

As a big plus, you could still shoot 44 mags in the converted rifle......try that in a 444 or 45-70!

I had a .44 mag. M 94 with a 20" barrel. I had to modify the cartridge stop projection on the carrier just to get it to feed a handloaded 250-grain Keith semiwadcutter seated to the criming groove...

As present I have a Lagacy 44m winchester, and a marlin model 1894 44m. Once I had a browning 92 44mag. I found that the 94 would feed longer rounds than either the marlin or browning. In fact the Corbon 44mag stuff was way too long for the browning. I don't have any more corbon so I have never tried it on the marlin.
