Removing Screwed-On Sling Swivels??

Okay, I give up.

I'm trying to unscrew the sling swivel screws on those goofy European style sling swivels. I don't know whether the screws are set in there somehow or they use Loktite or what but they will not budge.

Any ideas short of drilling out the screw?

I'm ready to drill them out!

Could be locktited in. Or just may be corroded. Try some heat. I use a soldering iron applied to the screw head. Try it hot or try waiting a while. Try some good penetrant while hot like kroil. I assume we're talking about the ones on the barrel?

Will - the Europeans love epoxy. I'm guessing that that's what's holding the swivel back.

Do the swivels measure 6mm?

I've got a set of 6mm swivels if you would rather go that route.

The stud/swivel in the stock can easily be replaced but getting the one off the barrel is the problem.

I tried heating it with a soldering iron but it didn't budge.

I guess I'll just have to drill it out.

I was thinking it may have had solder under it and in the threads of the screws, Did you pump enough heat in it to break a solder bond in the female threads?

Don't know if I applied enough heat but I doubt it if they are indeed soldered, which I don't think is the case. I think the general conclusion is to drill them out.
