Remington Action to WSM help
I built a 7WSM using a Remington 700 short action. It was barreled with a 300 SAUM.

I thought there would be no issues. The gun shoots 1/2 to 3/4 inch groups. I have the bullets seated out as far as I can to fit in the magazine and still feed. They are right at the recommended OAL for the 7 WSM. I tried seating a little shallower and the further out the better. So the last loads I seated out beyond the OAL that fits in the magazine. It was around .42 inches group. I fed them one at a time.

After doing some reading I found out that some manufacturers milled the bottom of the receiver slightly longer to allow the WSM's to feed better and allow bullets to seated out further. Has anyone done it and much did you mill out. It doesn't need alot and I think about 20 thousandths would be plenty and not compromise the integrity of the receiver. I have not found anyone that has done it but I know it has been done. I don't want to attempt it without seeing one or talking to someone that has done it.

I have used Wyatts extended magazine boxes quit often. They make a box specifically for the "short mags". Requires milling at the back of the feed port and adjusting the bolt stop. You'll gain about .100" inside the box. There are instructions on their web site.

Which is why I use long actions for everything; problem solved.

This is what I do. Basically you mill out the "ADL" screw location. Easy peasy......if you have a mill....

But, just think of all the wasted time and effort you've expended over the years, working that long bolt, backwards and forwards, every time you put a cartridge in or out of the chamber. That's the reason you're old and tired now.

These young folks with their short actions are going to reach our age much more energetic and less worn out because of all the effort they've saved over the years.

I do and will look at that. I considered that method but wasn't sure. Thanks

Old and tired?
I have the body of a 35 year old.
And they will never find out where I buried it.

This is the right way to do it IMO. I've seen people cut out the front, but this was for detachable magazines. I wrote about that here:

Are you talking about internal magazines? I did this modification on a long action 338/300RUM to get more internal length, and I basically did the front trigger guard screw differently and cut out the back of the magazine pocket as far as possible.
