Anybody got a schematic for the trigger on these? I got one in the shop that won't release the bolt unless you take out the trigger. What gives?

I'll assume you're talking about the U-9 which is a BSA.....a friend has one and I'll ask him how he releases the bolt.....you'd sure know a J-9 as it's a '98 Mauser thru and thru!

On the BSA base gun:

close the bolt.
squeeze and hold the trigger tight.
remove the bolt.

You are not actually hlding the lever that keep the bolt from coming out. you're hold friction tension on a spring loaded lever.

yup....the one I just tried requires the trigger be pulled and held at least two inches before the bolt has reached it's rearward travel

I also have a Herters U9 (BSA) the trigger must be pushed forward (toward the muzzle) to release the bolt.

Tried both methods suggested, neither works. I did talk to another gunsmith and he says the action needs to be taken out of the stock to get the trigger out.

Where is the schematic Miles?

Sorry about the mixup. I will not be sending the schematics until Monday. I have the book here at home in Forest Lake and a copy machine only at the office.

For what it's worth, the bolt looks the same as my other U9, but the trigger is different. The bolt comes out on the 300 WM by pushing the safety forward and holding the trigger back while sliding the bold out.

I think your original assumption that the safety was holding holding the bolt is correct

I have a 7x57 BSA from 1953. To remove the bolt, you dry fire it and continue to hold the trigger back hard, this holds the sear (which acts as the bolt stop) out of the bolts way allowing removal. The slightest relaxation on the allows the sear to move up and the procedure need repeating.
