DKimPost 64 Model Magazine boxes
If one were looking for a new magazine box for a post 64 model 70, and goes to Midwest Gun Works it seems pretty straightforward until you get to the available products. For example if you specify a mag box for a 270 Winchester you get
https://www.midwestgunworks.co...caliber:.270$2520WinI get the Push-feed and blue vs stainless differences but what are the differences between the others? Does it have to do with the stock or bottom metal? If you had a barreled action and no mag box, how do you choose?
If you select 30-06 you get the same choices but if you select 280 there are fewer choices. The specs are confusing as well. Some are listed for almost all cartridges and others are only for a subset.

dpcdOne size fits all, basically. Just need to know if you have a floor plate, or you have a 70A with a blind mag. And true short actions of course. And they used to make 308s on long actions, blocking the mag box. Just remove the block.
If you need one for a 270 or a 280, one for a 30-06 will work.
Long magnums like 375 are not blocked off like shorter ones; I remove the blocks as they are spot welded in. the actual boxes are all essentially the same; the angles of the lips are how they control feeding on the post 64 rifles; no need to mill feed rails into the receivers to fit each cartridge.
I have no idea what all their mag box codes mean.

speerchucker30x378I think some of their malicious codes indicate that the parts are either original manufacture back when the gun was first made and others are after market mag boxes made by Miruko or whoever is producing them now. No difference unless you happen to be a radical collector or super sentimental and cry when Old Yeller comes on. The new parts are identical to the old, where it counts.

dpcdOne of the box codes is "KFC", and we all know what that means.
Wonder why I suddenly feel hungry?

DKimThank you - that certainly helps.
Poutine - a favorite of Canadian MMA legend Georges St. Pierre!
