Scota4570Rear sight ideas wanted
I am making an Alex Henry style trapdoor. Sort of an Officer's model with a late 19th century British flair.
My first idea was folding leaf rear sight on the barrel. I have one that is missing a leaf and it it is collectible so, I probably won't want to use it. I was thinking of making a single folding leaf and one fixed leaf sight. As I look at 45-70 ballistics again the folding leaf idea seems silly.
I am now gravitating to a simple peep sight soldered to the tang, up near the receiver. Traditional tang sights interfer wioth thumb placement. The sight would be a simple "L" shape with a hole in it. The front sight would be filed and drifted to sight it in.
I was hoping for examples of such a sight to inspire me. It would need to have the "Steam-punk" look to match the rifle. The rifle is very nice, with great wood, engraving and excellent execution of the build. In other words a simple L-shape stuck to the tang won't do. I need to fancy it up a bit.
Thanks in advance.

dpcdDo it like this; tang sights work best and you learn where to put your thumb.

GrenadierIf you want it like the British then do it like the British. These are two different Gibbs Farquharsons with the same rear sight.
