Rem barrel rethread?
Guys,
Is there enough meat in a Rem700 sporter barrel to have it rethreaded for a Savage action? Looking at picking up a Rem barrel in 220Swift and using it as a donor for a 22BR on a Savage action.
Cheers...

My .223 Rem barrel was originaly on a 700 action but is now on a Savage. I don't know all the details as it was bought from a gunsmith already rethreaded. My 22-250 barrel (on a Savage as well) reads Ruger on the side so they are also a canidate.

The answer is usually, yes. The tenon on most Savages' is 1.055 and the Remington is 1.062.

However, the Savage uses a much longer thread because of the barrel nut.

The real light contour Remingtons can't be rethreaded.

Usually new take off Savage barrels can be had cheap.... cheaper than I'd charge to modify a Remington to fit.

Rem 700 shank is 1.050" and 16TPI.

Savage is 1.055" and 20 TPI.

You would have to cut the Remington shank off and start over.
