Win Safari Classic 375 restocking question
I'm looking to restock my Win Model 70 Safari Classic in a McMillan stock. The stock was not inletted for the extra barrel lug. Do I inlet the stock for the barrel lug or remove the barrel lug? How do you remove the barrel lug?

Safari Hunter - not easy to remove as its welded on & not just soldered. If you went the McMillan - easiest way would be to inlet for it.

But why not buy a spare in a M70 - 375 Stainless & restock that in a McMillan & you have a real weatherproof rifle. No under barrel recoil lug in that one. The black stock on a Stainless definitely deserves to go (but really it does an adequate job - I just dislike it).

I have been told that the welding of the extra lug can affect the accuracy of the Classic Stainless due to it being welded on & no opportunity to stress relieve. I don't know cause I never fired a shot from mine & sent it off to be cannibalised! - Oh I meant customised.

But I am using the Wood Stock on a M70 Stainless that I rechambered to 375RUM (need extra weight to soften recoil). IMHO the wood stock on the Safari Express is quite nice, why change it?

Am a 375 looney. Have 1 Sako 375 in a HS Stock, 1 375 Full blown custom & a 375 RUM - M70 Stainless. And you know all of them can shoot sub 1/2 MOA for 3 shots at 100. Love those 375 & Woodleigh bullets.

Just releave the extra recoil lug area in the stock and glass bed the whole thing, there is no such critter as a "drop in" IMO....
