How do I remove a stuck 10/22 barrel?
OK I have a 10/22 with an after market barrel. Was wanting to swap barrels.

I remember the barrel being tight as I installed it 10+ years ago. The mounting screws did some of the final install. As of this moment it is in there for keeps.

Suggestions on how to get it loose?

Use a heat gun to warm up the aluminum receiver, it will expand faster than the steel barrel and loosen the fit.

If necessary, cut a hole in a piece of plywood big enough to slide over the barrel and face up to the front of the receiver and tapped the receiver off with a hammer.

Thanks Frank. Hadn't thought of the heat gun. I did find a thread over on rimfire using a couple pieces of wood and a large C clamp.

I'll try the heat gun first. A lot simpler.

The heat gun works best for me to loosen them up. Good luck.

Heat gun will work like a champ unless.....

There is a phenomenon know as "cold welding" IIRC. It is a chemical reaction that sometimes takes place between aluminum alloys and steel. Almost like a corrosive reaction but it is a serious son-of-a-buck to get loosened.
