How do I remove a stuck 10/22 barrel?

ramrod340How do I remove a stuck 10/22 barrel?
OK I have a 10/22 with an after market barrel. Was wanting to swap barrels.
I remember the barrel being tight as I installed it 10+ years ago. The mounting screws did some of the final install. As of this moment it is in there for keeps.
Suggestions on how to get it loose?
As usual just my $.02

FjoldUse a heat gun to warm up the aluminum receiver, it will expand faster than the steel barrel and loosen the fit.
If necessary, cut a hole in a piece of plywood big enough to slide over the barrel and face up to the front of the receiver and tapped the receiver off with a hammer.

ramrod340Thanks Frank. Hadn't thought of the heat gun. I did find a thread over on rimfire using a couple pieces of wood and a large C clamp.
I'll try the heat gun first. A lot simpler.

drhall762Heat gun will work like a champ unless.....
There is a phenomenon know as "cold welding" IIRC. It is a chemical reaction that sometimes takes place between aluminum alloys and steel. Almost like a corrosive reaction but it is a serious son-of-a-buck to get loosened.
