blackbearhunter1925 savage info ?
Does anyone know anything about a 1920-1925 era savage bolt action rifle?I saw one today and it looked just like a mauser, had a bent down bolt, rear cocker like a springfield & also had a tang safety and marbles rear peep.It was neat little rifle chambered in 250-3000 sav. are these guns pretty rare?It had a serial number like 8429.The rifle had a nice custom stock & the barrel & action looked clean/100% any idea of value of this old deer rifle?I though it was a pretty cool little shooter..and very interesting!

gnoahhhYes they are neat little guns. What you saw was a Savage Model 20, made from 1920 to 1928. They were chambered in only 2 calibers: .250/3000 and .300 Savage. About 20,000 were made and (factoring in attrition also)are quite rare. They weighed about 6 pounds and as you noted were of a Mauser design.
I have one in .300 and it is a delight. If I were to see another one for sale I would snatch it up in a heartbeat!

craigsterI sold a nicely restored Model 20 in 250-3000 a year or so ago for $500. The guy didn't even blink when I told him what I wanted for it, just forked over the cash, no questions asked. Maybe I let it go too cheap or he wanted it real bad. They are nice little rifles.
