troutcreeksRemington 722 Scope Mount Holes FYI
I needed to make some scope bases for a project and found the factory base holes were off the centerline 0.025-0.030". On previous base projects I drilled my own holes so had never run into something like this. Glad I mill the bases while on the receiver.
I had used and fired the rifle before and never would have known. I'm surprised the scope adjustments could overcome the situation.

For most people as noted they would have never have known.
I have a WalMart Model 60 with the front sight off too far to use a see-through scope mount...

AtkinsonWow,Ive owned a lot of REm 722 rifles and never had an off center base..I would tig them up, surface grind the action and retap the holes and rust blue to match..

Duane Wiebe (CG&R)Another option: The difference between a 6 x48 and a 8x40 is about .014. You may be able to cheat the hole over enough..or even go to 10x32.
Avoid welding on the ring at all costs.
