David CraigMounting studs on a McMillan
Just got a brand new McMillan stock and they forgot to install the sling studs. A quick call to them and they sent the studs right out. However they sent me a 4 and they are different.
One has a woodscrew type threads about 3/4" long
Two has machine threads about 1/2"long
One has machine threads about 3/8" long
Question is which one goes where?
Has anyone put studs on a McMillan type stock and do you use a epoxy?
I know this probably sounds simple but the last thing I want to do is make a mess of a new stock.
Thanks

fyjThe wood screw threaded ones are for the rear and the machine screws/nuts are for the front.
I’ve also found that center cutting end mills cut a much cleaner hole, with less chance of surface splits/chips in the material than regular drill bits do. If you use a drill bit at least put some tape over the spot you’re drilling.
Epoxying them in place is a good idea, especially the rear one.
The different lengths they sent you are probably so you can “customize†them to your particular barrel/stock. Proper clearance for the barrel is very important so be sure the front one isn’t too long.
Good luck.
