I just received a really fine looking Whitworth rifle in 7mm Rem. Magnum from Will. The wood, finish, etc. is top rate.. so what's the problem? It's the cheap little, stamped-metal slide safety. I know it works well, but it is just ugly on so nice and "substantial" a firearm. So, is there an alternative with out rebuilding the whole darn bolt and buying a new trigger system? If so, where can I buy one and is it drop-in or does it require 'smithing?

First choice would be a three position safety, but a two position would be just fine.

Just swap it out for an FN. I don't have any spare ones at the moment, but here is one. FN Safety

The Gentry 3-position is excellent but does require modification of the cocking piece, and you may need a heavier firing pin spring (I did, although it tested fine at Gentry's). Their turnaround is quick -- less than 2 weeks IIRC.

Or you could go to a Timney trigger -- same type of trigger safety but a little more substantial part. You may need to open up the inletting a bit.

As was stated you can use a FN or you should be able to use a military and add a new lever to it.

If you don't want to buy a new trigger use the factory one and remove the safety from the side of it.

The case coloring ought to look pretty cool on the rifle. BTW, Kurt, the Ernst Kerner 9.3x62 still hasn't put two bullets in paper that don't touch each other. I hope to get a buff with it next year.
