Per COTW: "Case-head diameter matches the 9.3X62mm (which is about 0.004" larger than the .30/'06, but this case is, as indsicated, 3mm longer than the 9.3X62mm." However, the case shoulder diameter is given in COTW as 0.430", the head diameter is shown as 0.474"-0.475", with a rim diameter of 0.470". Since the '06 case is nominally 0.441" at the shoulder, 0.470" at the head and 0.474" on the rim, it seems to me that this brass could be used for making 6.5/'06 cases by running them through a 6.5/'06 FL sizing die and trimming them to proper length for your chamber. The head-to-shoulder length of the 6.5X65mm RWS is not given in COTW, but the round appears in the photo to have a lot shorter neck than the '06 case. This would be good, as it would allow you top "custom-fit" the headspacing of these cases to your chamber as you size them.

The factory version of the 6.5-06 is the 6,5x64 Brenneke.

According to my drawings the,
6,5-06. Case lenght: 63,35mm or 2,494 inches, this is more or less a 3006 necked down. It has 17 degrees, 30 minutes shoulder.

6,5X64 Brenneke. Case lenght: 64,52mm or 2,540 inches. Which is a 7X64 brenneke /270 win that been necked down to 6,5. It has a 17 degrees, 30 minutes shoulder.

6,5X65RWS. Case lenght: 65,00mm or 2,56 inches. basicly a 280 rem with a shorter neck in 6,5. It has a 20 degree shoulder.

I should have posted "I have read that the 6,5x06 is the 6,5x64 Brenneke". It is not right to post something as a fact until you know that it is one.
I have a 25-06 that I would like to convert (only need about $7,000.00 to complete all my immediate "must do soon" projects).
Where did you get the factory ammo? I like the idea of a chambering where you can get great hunting and great target bullets.

This isn't always totally true. The 6.5-06 is actually 6.5mm by 63mm versus the 6.5mm by 64mm Brenneke. This is because one uses the 30-06 as a parent case while the other uses the 270 Winchester. I once had a 6.5-06 that would not chamber the Brenneke round until the chamber was extended a bit to make up for that milimeter difference. Other folks I know had no trouble using the 6.5X64 Brenneke round in their chamber.



I do agree though, that if I was to make another 6.5-06 it would be chambered for the Brenneke round as then you would have the best of both worlds. The fact that the neck is a little longer just makes it a very user friendly case for handloaders.

What is the difference between the 6.5-06 and the 6.5x65 RWS? I have a custom rifle in 6.5-06 that I would like proper brass for. Is the 6.5 RWS essentially the same chamber? Can I use the 6.5x65 RWS brass in the gun without rechambering the thing? Finally does anyone have a chamber reamer for it? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
