Help me out here guys. I have a Ruger 77 MKII all-weather (stainless, zytel stock) in 260 remington. I love this gun, however I'd like to glass bed it, possibly adding pillars in the process. I am passingly familiar with epoxies, just not with rifles (I built a duck boat). Any tips, tricks, procedures will be met with unwavering adoration. Or at least a polite "thank you".

I realize that I'll need to remove as much off the action as possible. I have the trigger off- how does one remove the safety and ejector? The ejector looks to be pinned in, requiring removal of the sear in order to be able to drive the pin out. Does this sound right?

Firstly, my only qualification for answering this post is that I have glass bedded a similar rifle so I'm no experienced gunsmith�.

To remove the action from the stock, all I had to remove were the two or three screws through the bottom metal. There is one major one out of sight under the floor plate. After that, the whole action should lift out without any further stripping or at least it did on my early M77 mk2.

I would hesitate trying to free float the barrel on these as I don't feel the stock is stiff enough especially if you shoot off a bipod or using a sling�You get odd flyers if your not careful�.I tried and ended up putting the pad back�

Unless they have changed the stock material, it's a bugger to get the bedding material to stick to it�clean/ degrease it well and rough the surfaces up to get a good key�.I'm not going to say how I actually bedded it as I'm not sure I did it "correctly" but beware Ruger's have a different recoil lug arrangement to most rifles! Having said all that I love my Ruger�it is a great "working" gun even if the stock is butt ugly! Mine is a .233 and will shoot honest .75" groups with boring regularity�.

Well, so far I have gotten everything apart except for the removal of the extractor. Have to find the proper punch for that. Looks as though I may have to buy a set.

A few questions have come to mind since I first posted.

I am thinking of freefloating the barrel. I figure that if this does nothing to improve accuracy or actually worsens it, then I can bed in a pressure point. Sound idea?

Second, should I bed the rear tang? I seem to recall reading that this should be done, and I think it would put both ends of the action in a level plane with each other, causing less flex.
I also plan on taping up the underside and fron of the recoil lug so that only the rear flat is bedded. Is this correct procedure?

Lastly, should I invest in the pillars that Brownells is offering for the m77? Or will they be more trouble than it is worth?
