IS M1999 action good enough for this
I am considering buying a M1999 SS action and sending it to Pac-Nor to have SS barrel installed. Then I would like to get and install a legends stock. I have bedded and installed stocks before with good success. However I have no experience doing metal work or blueing. Is the action ready to be barreled as it is sent from Montana Rifle? I plan on chambering it for a 300WM for hunting purposes.
Thank you
Ted

Savage99They told me that the actions would be polished above the stock line. So if this is true then you can have it bead blasted and I think put it in a stock.
Check PacNors site and see if they do bead blasting. I expect that you will have a SS barrel of course.
I am going to slick up my M1999's some myself before they are barreled.
Rod said in an earlier post that the action would be threaded for the standard Winchester/ Ruger barrel threads.

AtkinsonI'd have it polished out, it is rough below the wood and that makes for rust that you won't see until its too late and rust makes pits...The rails need polishing and slicking up anyway...Do it right the first time, and save money.
Thanks for the replies. I guess I should contact a gunsmith. I checked with Jack, he won't have anything but blue/wood. I understand and respect that. Do any of you have recomendations for a smith?
Thank you
Ted
I have a Montana Rifle 1999 SS action in my hands as I type this. It is already bead blasted so you do not need to worry about blasting it. As far as polishing it below the wood line... who cares after all it is stainless so no rust. In my opion unless you want to get super fussy it is ready for a barrel. Have you thought about having montana rifle do the whole job? Good shooting Ed

Dan@Montana Rifle CoThe actions are usually not polished below the stock line, but if you request it, we can bead blast the action for you before we send it out. It isn't all that much more work since we do it anyway. Just give us a call at 406-755-4867 or email me at mtrifle@montanarifleman.com and I'll make sure it is done before it leaves the shop.

Savage99tedg,
I just noticed that your looking at a "Legend" stock for your SA and I think that that stock is LA only!
My plan, as I learn about the SS M1999's SA's, is to see what they look like, slick it, fit it to the stock and then have the entire barrel and action bead blasted together so as to match.
