Ruger #1 Re-Barrel
Gents,

Does Ruger do smith work?
Will they re-barrel a tropical #1, if so about how much.

Thanks,

You should ask the guys in the single shot rifle section, too.

I think Ruger will re-barrel for the same caliber, but will not change calibers. They also will not let you have your old barrel back.

Again, look in the single shot rifle section.

Aybody with rebarreling capability will be able to do your #1. Most will do a much better job than Ruger. They will also need a mill to cut the extractor cuts in the barrel. They may need to re-cut the extractor depending on the caliber they rebarrel to.

akalinin is correct. Ruger once told me that they will only work on a rifle if it is first returned to the same specs as when it left the factory. I had a RSM in 416 that had a bit of a feeding problem. Since the forend tip had been replaced with an exotic wood one, they wanted to first restock the rifle before they would work on it. At that time it was $485 for the stock, but they would get the feeding fixed under warranty! When I inquired why they needed to replace the stock, the "techinical person" animal told me that the new forend tip was the cause of the problem. Of course that was after she accused me of using an aftermarket magazine. Anyway, send it to a good gunsmith and get exactly what you want. If you do send it to Ruger for some reason, take ANY parts not original to the gun off of it before you send it. This includes triggers, sights, recoil pads, forend tips, etc. Good luck.
