Re: Help, which mounts for JC Higgins FN?
The spacing on the rear bridge of my M50 rifles is too close together for any base that I have found. Rather than drill the bridge again I drilled the bases for a third hole. If you get a hole in a base out of line it's an inexpensive replacement or fix compared to the receiver. I have one Redfield one piece base that I had the single rear hole welded up and then drilled a hole and countersink in the correct location for the action.

JC Higgins Model 50 scope mounts

The pre 55 models have the .504 spacing on the rear and the .860 spacing on the front.

The post 55 models have .875 spacing on BOTH FRONT and REAR.

As far as I know no current commerical mounts are made for the post 55 model.

I have one of the pre 55 and two of the post 55 actions set aside for rifles one of these years.

Leupold !!!

I have a JC Higgins belgium made FN mauser model 51 .

Leupold has the bases . STD Mauser FN Rev. front #50027 2 piece. Piece of Cake. luepold med high rings . Or I would get the Burris signature rings with the inserts, incase you have a slite base height level problem.

Mine is a 270 and I have leupold bases and rings and a VariX III 4.5x14 on it now.

Bolt on turn key set up.

Bingo! Thats what I've got the wide spacing both front and rear. I may just keep it an open sight gun until I decide that I must have an '06 or I make it into something else and go with custom bases.

Stocker - Good idea - Checking the Browning one piece base I have mounted with the two front screws, It looks like there is plenty of space on the base to drill a mounting hole to use the front hole on the rear bridge without bothering the existing rear hole. Much better way to maintain the value of the action.
