If you can do 338, you should be able to do those: https://forums.accuratereloading.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/3221043/m/900103853

I would bet that either of these cartridges (especially the 9.3x62) if loaded to advantage over the 06, would beat a Garand up pretty quickly.

Sort of like sticking a hot engine in a car and leaving the stock drive train in place. Just my opinion.

Well, you need to put in an adjustable vent gas cylinder plug. Available from Brownells, or Midway. You can set the amount of (extra) gas that it vents out of the gas cylinder by adjusting an allen screw. This also usually helps accuracy, by slowing the op rod action down, so the bullet is out of the barrel when the bolt starts onlocking.

The M1 can be chambered to any cartridge that has the same rim/base dimension and length of the '06. The biggest problem with any conversion is port pressure. The port pressure is determined by the residual pressure of the cartridge at the port and by the diameter of the port itself. Krieger can tell you the difference in the port diameter for .30-06 and .308 WIN. A savvy interior ballistician could figure out what the size of the port should be. Generally speaking, you cannot use slow burning powders in a Garand. High residual port pressure will bend the op rod and screw up the cycling and the accuracy.

You might check with Springfield Armory. If memory serves, about 20-25 years ago they offered the Garand in 25-06, 270 and 35 Whelen. There may be an "old hand" around who remembers how it was done.
