Don't know where to post this. Used an aerosol spray degreaser from Birchwood casey, while cleaning a Beretta M92 stainless. The frame is an alloy. The spray degreaser apparently had some chemicla affect on the frame as now my prints are etched into the frame on a permanent basis. The spray was never directed at the frame in fact the degreaser was on my hand from spraying and cleaning the barrel. I have never heard of this and there is no warning on the can about the effect on aly framed handguns. Has anyone else run into this or is this a one time quirk of fate??

You don't suppose the fingerprint was already there and the spay just showed it up do you, perhaps rust or? I cannot imagine what your claiming, it would have to be acid to etch steel...

Actually, I heard something about the BATF buying up this company and designing the product to etch the finger prints of all people who touch the weapon Into the frame so they can trace weapons easier!

The frame of the handgun is an aluminum-zirconium alloy. The gun was new off the shelf and was being cleaned prior to firing. There is more than one print and on the backstrap there is a parital palm print. The prints were definately not there at the begining of the cleaning process, and cannot be removed now, haven't tried sanding.
During the initial cleaning this degreaser got on my hands I do remember the sticky feeling at the time but thought nothing of it. I cannot believe that I am the only one that this could have happened to.

My wife bought me Ruger .44 semi-auto for my birthday last year. It was used, but in very good condition. It was pretty greasy in the action area, so I dissambled it and sprayed it down with the same aerosol, Birchwood-Casey Gun Scrubber. As I held the trigger Assembly over the sink and sprayed it down, all the finish came off and ran down the drain. I guess I wasn't too smart about cleaning this area with gun scrubber. I don't uses this stuff very often, and I'll use it even less now.
