M1TankerDifferent Bolt Stop needed
A soldier of mine just bought a used Herters rifle in 300 Win Mag. It was exceptionaly inexpensive because it was listed as missing the bolt stop / ejector housing. I pulled the bolt stop and parts off of a Turk Mauser and polished and blued them. They look good too. But when I went to put them on the rifle I found out it has a completely different set up than other Mauser style actions. The only one like it I have found is on a pic of a Browning Olympian. I am posting the pic so you can see what I am looking for.
Does anyone know where I can find one these bolt stop / ejectors?

M1TankerIs there another source from a different type rifle? Or a way to adapt a 98 Mauser to work?

systeme98M1Tanker, Herters imported the Yugoslav Mauser made to resemble an FN- pre- Mk X- and one made by Heym in Germany. The only number I remember is" U-9", but that probably is their designation for the Yugo action. There was a split flat spring held by a large screw about where the tab on the Mauser bolt stop is , which held the spring in place. The stop itself was held in place by the flat spring. De Haas book on bolt actions may have a picture of it. It was covered, in the "Dope-Bag" section in the American Rifleman, probably in the '60's. A picture scanned and sent to the parts places might help because there weren't all that many of them versus Mausers.

Wisner's IncHerters imported some of these in the late 60's into the mid 70's.
Two models are described in De Haas book Bolt Action Rifles, 3rd ed. pages 308 - 309, a J9 and a XK3.
I purchased a J9 action from Herters about 1975. It was the short action. From what I remember the Browning parts would interchange. I thought that bolt stop was neat so ordered some parts from Browning and modified some other Mauser actions to that bolt stop. I recall that the serations of the stop was different between the Herters and Browning.
You know what, that is starting to get a few years ago now.
