For a Winchester 70 post '94. I'm interested in any information you can offer for suck things as fume bluing and such.

Thanks.

Go to the Brownells catalog and review their books on bluing.

Curtis,

A post '94 M70 should have most of the finish still on it, being at the most 5 years old And since I'm already being a smart aleck I'll also tell ya that I can't offer much information on "suck things" ROFLMAO!!

One of the hidden traps when you post late at night!

Now getting back to your gun, do you want to do a rust bluing to it or just want to put a nice blue finish on it but don't have access to a hot tank setup? Like Palladin said, check the Brownells catalog. Actually what I would suggest is that you check out brownells catalog then go to see if your library at school has any of the titles and if not then you can locate them with an inter-library loan process.

Fume blueing will require a box, thermostat, and a LOT of skill and equipment...

Rust blueing is also a practiced skill and very hard to learn..but lasts two life times.

the folks that do the above best are those that do it every day such as Doug Turnbull and a few others...

Cold blue such as Diropan etc. is just a short cut and like most short cuts it is not a quality blue..won't last and is shallow.

I just saw a rifle that was Parkerized then hot blued. It came out as a matte black colour. Looked good and should wear well.

Mark-
glad you enjoyed me fumbling with the key boards . I meant to say such things not suck things, although i'm sure there's a critic somewhere around here who'd are you the basis for the suckiness of it.

Ok fellas thanks for the input

I'd give this one several smilie winks. Glad I'm not the only night owl. If I can't sleep I look at these forums. Then I dream about the next five projects to do after the current ones are finished. I have been doing a lazy man's method from Brownell's. Teflon in a can. I have to say that most of the parts were on stainless though. Good luck with the blue jobs. That Parkerizing followed by a blue job is intrigueing.
