Rust blueing
Does anyone know of a reliable source for this blue finish? Is it really better than conventional blueing? Any insight or info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Ming

They do not do slow rust blue. They do "Express Blue". Is is different and not as good. It is sort of like Birchwood Casey Plumb Brown then boiled.

Don't get me wrong, it is better than hot caustic but, it is not as durable as a real rust blue. You can find formulas in most gunsmithing texts. It will involve mecuric chloride and and some oxidizers. Don't do it at home as the mercury is vaporized when you swab it on an you will inhale some. Mercury will cause brain damage, there is no good treatment. It is a cumulative poison.
