WoodjackSAko L461 Vixen Small Action weight??
Does anyone have a currently stripped Sako L461 action that they can weigh, and tell me the weights with and without its steel bottom metal?

Jim KobeThese things are not worth the time and effort to expend any energy on. Ship it to me and I will give you a fair price for it.

manhassetIf you can get ahold of The Bolt Action Vol 1 by Stuart Otterson or 1970 Sports Afield Gun Annual there are action breakdowns with measurements and weights. I don't have either one at hand presently. Will get back at a later date if still needed

mhoSorry, I don't have a "naked" L461 to weigh - mine wears both barrel and stock...
Frank de Haas' "Bolt Action Rifles" (in the edition from 1984) lists the weight of the L461 action as approx. 34 oz. No weight is listed without the bottom metal.
No wonder Jim wants to buy your action, the L461 must be about the smoothest action I have ever come across. Mine feels like a "sewing machine" when you operate it. Rifles built around these actions usually shoot well too...

Jim KobeWanting to buy it was the wrong term, I only wanted to get it off his hands so he wouldn't get spoiled.

manhassetThis comes from "Sports Afield Gun Annual 1970" by Pete Brown. He took apart 45 actions, weighted and measured them.
Sako L461, short
rec. and trigger 1 lb. .85 oz.
tg, fp, and tg screws 6.85 oz.
bolt assembly 8.82 oz.
total 2 lb. .52oz
Not exactly the same as Otteson, but maybe Pete Brown had his finger on the scale.
