Fitting stocks
I have been trying to find information on stock fitting i.e. length of pull, cast off, drop etc. Are any of you familiar with any books that deal with this subject.

Gregg - If you are referring to rifle stocks, the Gun Digest Book of Riflesmithing, by Jack Mitchell touches on the subject of "classic" style stock dimensions. It does not necessarily (as I remember) delve into fitting a stock for someone.

The book "Professional Stockmaking" by Westbrook is the only tome I've read that came close to describing on how to fit a riflestock...

After several years of researching, the best advice is to find a rifle that is close to fitting you and start tweaking it from there...

Try as many different rifles as possible and start taking measurements of those that fit well.

Different people may have different definitions of what constitutes a good fit, but what I look for is simply a stock that I can get on my shoulder quickly and allows my eyes to line up automatically with the scope or sights, without fidgeting or having to move my head or neck around.

One trick is to mount the rifle with your eyes closed- then you open them to see how far off you are from line of sight.
