Well said Terry.
I,m going to do a search, seems to me somebody said something about not going for figured wood any more...

I have liked this project all along and now you have brought it one step higher, Thanks for Sharing!
Mr srtrax, you're a bad man

You do need to go back to that thread and look at the blanks pictured to put everything in perspective. I like a figured blank, but it needs to be well behaved figure and those blanks weren't. Most of the blanks pictured on that thread (including the one I posted) would give you vertigo they had so much going on with them. I do believe you can go "over the top" with figure and IMO, those blanks were.
Here is what I like to follow when it comes figure. Straight through the forearm, turn down at the grip and I'm pretty much open to what ever happens after that.
I upset a few people on that thread with my comments. Opinions were asked and I only gave mine.

I hear ya, I've liked all your projects and how they finished up. I think you hit the mother load when you came across this blank, a great balance of everything, I cant see the grain flow on my screen, but know that James got it right, and well the figure you couldnt have asked for better! I came across a very nice english blank that is quarter sawn for my intergal barrel mexican and had it turned to a profile I liked. You never know what inside, like breaking open an egg. At first I hated it because all the mineral streaking is perfect front to back, but the cheekpeice is heavy in marble. When I placed the barreled action and the Blackburn metal by it I was shocked as to how well the total look blended together.
Blah, blah, blah, Anyway...When you cracked this egg you got a double yoke.
Enjoy!

<slancey>TC1,
The bottom metal looks pretty raw in the photos.
How are you going to finish shape the trigger guard bow? I'm thinking of the flat side surfaces.
Very impressive! I am also impressed with your dust/chip evacuation system. Simple and it seems effective. Good job, sir. I lookf orward to seeing the finished product.

I'm just writing the checks on this one.

Maybe James will chime in. I remember him saying something about polishing it.
Rusty, I've worked a stock that came off that machince. It was amazing how close it came out.
