does anyone have anything to share about a 338-284 or a 375-284

old4x4I've got a 375/284 in a S&W 1500. Used to be a 243 Win. SSK did a really nice job for me and SSKchromed it. I'm a single shot guy, but this is my one and only repeater. What, specifically, would you like to know about it?

260remguyI have a 338-284 and think that it is the best necked-up 284 based wildcat. The rifle is a Savage 99CD with a 22" Douglas barrel and it shoots 210 grain BTs and Partitions close enough to the same POA to call it a wash. I've done a fair amount of 284 wildcating and think that the 25-284, 6.5-284, and 338-284 are the cream.

xs headspaceA woman at my last long range prone match was shooting the 6.5x284 off sandbags (F Class it's called), and she shot two consecutive perfect 200 with 20 Xs at 1000 yds. About 75% of the shooters use this caliber for the any-rifle events in Long Range. PS The X ring is 10" dia.

max(hm2)i have one in-between. it is a 35-284 built on a left handed short action remington. think of it as a hot rod 358 win or a short standard 35 whelen. the first year i got it i touched the trigger five times at five deer. ended up with five dead deer. 65 to 256 yards.

338LapuaI have a very lightweight 338-284 built on a Ruger short action and love it. Great round!!

BohicaI have built many 338/284s along the way and still have my old original that does [to me] the same as a 338 Mag. 225 bullets at 2800-2900 is plenty and the accuracy is great too. Great cartridge.

NortmanBohica: is this in a long or short action?

vapodogFWIW wildcats based on the .284 case are far more popular than the original .284 ever was.
I've often wondered if the original cartridge had been bought out in .30 caliber if the 7MM wildcat would have been all the rage.

larrysFor you guys that built on standard short actions, max(hm2) and 338Lapua, did you have to do anything to the feed rails? I have a 700ADL in 308 that I am thinking about using as a 284 wildcat donor. My 6.5-284 likes bullets seated out to 3.00" si I went with an intermediate mauser for that one. Just wondering about the short actions...

BohicaDear Nortman,
The rifle was built on a med length Mauser 98. I have since done a few on the Mexs and also on Win 70 SA. One heck of a good cartridge!
