Mauser Lug bearing surface.
For the front upper and lower locking lugs, when they are in full battery (i.e. bolt is in the closed position) does anyone know what percentage of the locking lug abutment (I hope that is the correct word) mates with the bolt locking lug.

Ideally or in the real world??

The truth is it varies from rifle to rifle. That`s why you hear so much about "lapping" the lugs, they almost never mate up close to evenly let alone fully so some reworking is needed if you want good contact.

I do not mean "if you lap the lugs". I should have been more specific. I guess I should have said "surface area covered"

From memory, and without taking actual measurements, about 50%. There is a good deal of seat showing on either side of the lug. his does not includ ethe area behind the ramps.
