We just received the above into the shop in excellent condition. Function testing revealed it would double feed and jam two rounds in the carrier. Further inspection reveals it has a shell latch/stop on the right hand side of the receiver vs one on the left as in all M48's we have seen. There are shell stop mortises on both sides of the receiver? Can't find any schematics on the .410. Anybody have any experience with these little devils?

Try the gun parts corp. they have schematics on most.

They show one latch on the left. Didn't know if the .410 was different.

I don't have a .410 to look at but my 28 guage and 12 guage 48's are identical except the scale. Both have the release on the right that doubles as a shell stop for the tube magazine.
The 28's frame and all parts being scaled down.
I figured a 410 would be same as a 28 but have never actually messed with one.

I'm pretty sure that the shell latch on the left hand side and the carrier latch on the right hand side are proprietary for the 410. The parts for the other gauges are not interchangeable. If I remember my 11-48 cycle of operation. The shell latch releases the shell that is going into the chamber and the carrier latch (operating as an interceptor) captures the on coming round in the magazine for the next shot and prevents a double feed. After the bolt has cycled forward the carrier latch releases the on coming round which is then caught by the shell latch, ready to be released for the 2nd shot. So, if it's double feeding logic would dictate that it is the carrier latch that has gone out for lunch.

God probably had nothing to do with it. The guy that was there before the last guy, probably mixed up the part numbers and ordered the wrong one. It's been sitting in the parts drawer for the last 25 years and the accumulated interest on it would buy a small 2 bedroom bungalow in down-town Beverly Hills.
