Gunsmiths-I have recently purchased some 250 gr Woodleigh in 8mm calibre, for my 8mm magnum (modified model 70). They are too long for my rifle in that they will not seat in the internal magazine, and are too long for the action.. If I shorten the COL to fit, the bullet will fall into the case with thumb pressure. Is it possible to lengthen the magazine and also the length of the action to accomodate them? The rifle will take a COL of about 3.6" for Hornady bullets, but I need about 3.64" for these bullets. Thanks-Karl

Karl, what caliber was the rifle before it was an 8 mag? Maybe you just need the 375/7mm STW length magazine box. - Dan

Dan-It was a 7mm mag. I find the metal on the inside of the action is also too short, so I think that just replacing the box won't solve the problem. Karl

Get a 375 length box, mark where the metal is too short, and get out your files. Work towards the rear of the action whenever possible. - Dan

Back to a question I put on another thread, would I be better off going to a .338 mag? Also I have a pre-64 Winchester 70 that I had redone to .30-06 AI. Maybe I should have it rebarrelled and rechambered to .338 mag. what do yo guys think? Thanks-Karl

Much as I hate to say it, you will end up with more choices with the 338, both in reloading and factory loaded ammo, and better availability of suitable ammo in the 338 as well. The 8MM is almost a reloader only cartridge, and don't run out of ammo when you are in strange country either, "Jimbo's Last Stop" may not have it. Even tho I like the 8MM RM a lot, it remains a cartridge of unattained potential, as always, JMHO.
