Is a 721 the same footprint as a 700?
Thanks

farbedoYes, except for the safety and bottom metal.
The lever is shorter and wraps around the tang on the 721. The 700 tang is notched for the safety. 721 bottom metal only fits a 721 stock. You use 700 bottom metal or an ADL stock and magazine to use a 700 stock with a 721 action.
You can modify a 700 stock for a 721 safety to fit.
Or you can notch the 721 tang and use a 700 trigger/safety, then use the normal 700 stock and bottom metal.
Neither is difficult to do with hand tools.

kendogAlong with the safety differences, the 721/722 have a slightly different profile to the tang. It will sit up high in a 700 cut-out.

just say moeThe 721 bolt is straight but will still fit in the 700 stocks slightly curved cut out.

AtkinsonI like the old 721 and 722 better than the 700 and much prefer the stock design of the 721, but Ive never had a problem shooting a scope with a low comb stock...My 722 222 with an old but goody 10X redfield with fine cross hair and lee dot is a go to varmint rifle that shoots exceptionally well.
problem with the 721 and 722s is if you break and extractor, they're only a tiny piece of wire, you can't get any. Not made any longer. In fact, same thing with some 700s (I have a pre 69 700 and the extractor broke, sent it to Rem to replace as couldn't find one. they replaced it and said, this was the last one we had). IF something happens to the extractor, you can have a Sako style installed. If anyone interested, I have a 721 in 270 I started to make into a custom rifle, but stopped on. Has the sako extractor, new bottom metal, model 70 style safety, etc. that I'm willing to let go, as got a 280 I like and have never used this rifle. If anyone interested, shoot me a PM and I can send pictures, etc.

Dans40XCBrownell's has the rivet type 700 .378" & .473" bolt face extractors.
700 .532" bolt face extractors are the only current riveted extractors as the .378" & .473" extractors are snap in type.
A SAKO extractor modification to any 721/722/725/600/660/Seven/700 is your worst option.
