500grainsAnother mauser safety question - VZ24 or Husqvarna FN 1950's safer?
For building a 470 capstick DGR, which action would be safter in the event of excessive pressure and/or a barrel obstruction?
1. vz24 made in 1939 milsurp reasonable shape.
2. FN mauser large ring made in the 1950's and bearing the Husqvarna crest, originally in 30-06. Does not have the thumb cut.
Assume either would be fitted with Blackburn bottom metal and set up by a knowledgeable big bore gunsmith. I wonder about the relative safety features of the 2 actions, and how their metallurgy would affect safety considerations.
Thanks!

500grainsI do not know how to tell the difference. Can I tell with the barrel still on?

The VZ-24 has ALL the Mauser brother's safety features. The FN doesn't, BUT the safety of two actions depend on the action, not who made it and when.
I'd build on a non-"C" ring FN in good shape but certainly wouldn't build on a ruined VZ-24.
"C" ring action is on the right.

<JBelk>JOHAN--
The FN had "C" rings until 1949 at least. I've never seen a 1951 or '53 with a "C" ring though.
The actions shown in the picture are both Model 24 Venuzuelans made by FN.

500grainsThanks Jack.
To refine the point further, if a customer walked in holding a 1955 Husqvarna non-C ring FN in one hand, and a 1939 vz24 in the other hand, and both were in good shape, which one would you choose for the project?

Since I very seldom do "cheap" custom rifles and prefer to put a LOT of work in an action and bolt and most everything else is replaced or, at least, doing most all that can be done to one...I'd take the VZ-24 every time.
I LIKE "C" rings, split lug gas seals, thumb slots and clip guides. I also like actions with a "history".
