MJHM98 peep sight options?
Hello,
I'm new to AR and I have a few questions about peep sights for a custom mauser project I'm putting together. I'd love to use a lyman 35 bolt stop sight but finding one seems rather unlikely(anyone have one taking up space?). I've also been looking at the lyman 48 sights but I'm not sure which to use on a large ring 98. I've also heard that parker hale made a decent reciever sight for the mauser but I haven't seen one yet. Did any other companies build quality peep sights for mausers? Are any companies still making them?
Thanks,
Michael

HanselI utilized a Williams Micro-adjustable model FP-98TK Peep sight on my .416 Taylor (They make three models, FP-98, FP-98TK, and 5D-JEMS). I am very happy that I did! I intended my Taylor to be a Irons only rifle and in fact, filled in the Drilled holes in the reciever. I use the rifle with a target sight disk for range and sight in work, and actually remove the sight disk for hunting in the field in dense cover or short ranges. I can tell you that with an adjustable sight insert the rifle is scary accurate. If you wonder about the accuracy of one of these sights look no further than the 600 yard Hi-power service rifle scores. Lyman still makes sights for the mauser if you are sold on that brand, they are mounted on the right rear reciever bridge, and are more solid than the left side models, thus more accurate. Other models for the mauser included the Redfield model 70 and 80M.
Hope that this helps.

MJHHansel,
Thanks for the excellent information. I just visited the Willams site and took a look at there products; sort of. They have terrible photos and none with the sight on a rifle. If you get a chance please post some pics of the sight on your rifle I'd like to see how it looks.
How about any european companies making peep sights???

I don't know what kind of time schedule you're on for your project, but you might try the classifieds in the Gun List- I've found some rarities in there now and then
http://www.gunlistonline.com/you can place a want ad, too.

The Lyman 35 or a Mauser bolt peep or both would be candidates for reproduction these days.
Anyone than can make new bottom metal could reproduce ththose sights. I could use about a dozen of them.
