Rebore: Classic Barrel Works/Cut Rifle
I sent an inquiry to Danny Pedersen regarding doing a rebore on a .458 to .474 and got this in response. I have followed many posts where Danny's work is highly regarded. Any one know what is going on or had work done recently by Classic Barrel Works? Is it just too much of a good thing, i.e., work?

Mike,
I have an email into a Buddy that lives close and goes by there frequently.

Mike,

Yep, Danny is mostly a one-man shop and gets overwhelmed every so often. He does great work, both in re-boring and his new barrels. He's worth the wait in my view. Send me a PM and I'll get it to him. I expect that I'll be in his shop next week sometime.

Dan had one of my barrels for "quite some time" but when I got it back the quality was excellent. Can't tell how accurate it was since I can't shoot a .416 all that well. He is worth the wait but he did send me a letter explaining that he was getting 300 calls a week and was overloaded. If you can work in his time frame he is a quality guy to go with. Earl.

Danny did my 10.75 bbl with integral island, front sight ramp and sling swivel. Beautiful work and shoots better than I.

I am having a custom rifle being built right now in 300H&H with a quarter rib, the barrel is to be a octagon style with the sight base and sling swivel machined from the bar stock he is a little behind but all the barrels he has done for me have been outstanding in both fit and finish I have no complaints, anymore if you want a outstanding job you have no choice but to wait

To be clear, I do not have anything sitting in Danny's shop. I was just inquiring about the email and assuming it was work load driven. It is clear though in talking to a number of folks about Danny and his work that it is well worth the wait. Sounds like he does great work.

He does great work based on what he has done for me. When LaBounty was in business, he told me the turn around time depended somewhat on caliber. All these guys live off their efficiency, and the tooling time to change calibers encourages grouping jobs by caliber. Once your set up to ream a 30 caliber hole, you do all the 30 cals in line. Then you rifle all the 30 cals. Someone wanting a one-off caliber may have to wait a little longer while the bills get paid before their job gets done.
