RollandMy 6.5 X 55 project
About a year ago I picked up a Spanish Mauser "cheep" so I thought I might make a small caliber rifle to go to my granddaughter when she gets old enough to hunt, (she is 4 now). Finally I am just about finished just need to get it checkered and a couple of small bugs worked out. But some how "cheep" fell by the way side
I now have over $500 in it and I have done all the metal and wood work other than make the safety (Ed laPour). But all in all it looks like it will turn out all right. I have a much better apprecation of those that build these for a living.

Curved butt, flat sides, schnabel AND a lever release. That is very nicely done.

That was a kit I got off the site here, apparently the company does not make them anymore or at least Brownells does not carry them. It is a lot of work to fit one but they save filing out the lever by hand.

There's an understatement. Having built a few rifles, I have no problem paying a qualified person for his time to put one together now. Some people have a gift for gunsmithing, but I'm not one of them.

Very nice!
Are you open to suggestions? If so, I would add a set of iron sights to that rifle along with the checkering. Even if you never use them a classic stock like that looks a little out of place with a smooth barrel. You could find a set of "take offs" for next to nothing.
It's a neat little gun and I bet it'll be a lot of fun to shoot too.

Well, other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

flaco$500 is a pittance.
I especially like the checkering on the bolt release/ejector.
Now that you've learned more than a few basics, can we expect to see more?

Made by grandad.
She'll be really proud to have that rifle. Very nicely done Rolland.
