7mm Mag to .416 Mag.
Just what is necessary to perfom this conversion?? Is it a simple rebarrel or will the magazine need work?? Is it better to start with another magnum caliber?? Thanks.

Same action, just put a new barrel on it.

What action are you starting with?

That's the thing, I'm not sure yet. Right now I'm thinking either Remington or Ruger, although I must admit I'm not a CRF guy, or a Ruger guy for that matter. Probably a Remington I guess. I should mention that I'm not going to take it to Africa, just probably shoot paper, or maybe elk or bears. I sure wish I could shoot a big bore first though, to feel the recoil. I shoot a .338 Win Mag and don't consider it bad at all. I also shoot 12 ga slugs, .58 cal black powder, and a .300 RUM. How does the recoil of the .416 compare ?

In a magnum Remmy action, all it takes is a barrel change. The action's long enough and not all that picky about what gets shoved into its gullet.

The 416 recoil is heavier than the 338 or RUM. Not so fast, but harder.

I bet you can get used to it if you are comfortable with the RUMs kick.
