teflon coating a stainless rifle
good or bad idea. does it wear off and can it be touched up or removed later on if desired? just wanted to take some shine off the gun.im looking at a company called black ice coatings. also gander mountain says they use the guy who invented the process. who is better at doing this process?

That would possibly be the only reason to coat a stainless gun. The Teflon process is no more durable than blueing on a CM gun and is more expensive. However it does protect against rust on them. I use a company in MS.

Bead blast and use the flat black bake on paint, it will wear off, but costs much less than teflon.

There are better finishes available in the years since the Teflon coating came out.

Most baked-on finishes use an epoxy type base, that are all but impervious to wear.

I had a rifle done by Falcon Gun that made the epoxy coating look like a nicely done bluing job.

I have several stainless rifles, but I guess my personal esthetics are to have them coated if I take them out into the field.

I had a nice olive-drab finish put on one rifle that is in a camo stock. Looks good.
