I have a real nice early 40's German 98 action that I am thinking about barreling to 9.3 X64. Anyone out there have one? What barrel length would you recommend? What powders are you using to load? Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

Snowman,
I hate it when people can't get a response.
We have customers that shoot the 9.3x64 Brenneke. They all feel very strongly about the cartridge. In fact one gentleman has had an article published about his use of the cartridge while on Safari.
Acceptable powders would be RE-15, IMR-4320, V V N540, H-414 and most others in that burning range. This is based on a bullet weight of 250 grains and a mostly full case.
If you would like more info hit the E-mail.

First - I dont have any first-hand hunting exprience with the 9,3x64. But since I have just got one with 24" barrel, I have asked other people who have.

Here is my only oppinion on it : Dont use the 232 grain Norma Vulcan/Orxy or the 270 grain Speer. Norma will make a ok 285 grain Orxy soon. I have been adviced to use the RWS TUG (295gr) or Lapua Mega (285gr) standard bullets or any of the premium 250+ grain bullets.

If you can locate one, the A-Square reloading manual lists loads for the 9.3x64.

I have a 9.3x64 and it is the full equivalent of the 375 H&H for all practical purposes....I use mostly RL-15 and IMR-4320..I like the 250 Swift, 286 Nosler and 320 Woodleigh...the later for buffalo in Herds and it works great, as does the Nosler..and Northfork Ind. is comming out with a 9.3 bullet pretty soon and I'm sure it will be the best of the best...My gun has a 26" Lothar-Walther barrel...I have hunted a little in Africa with a borrowed 9.3x64 and was impressed enough to build one for myself..Its a super 9.3x62 and thats no light praise...The Tug and Tig bullets are well thought of in Africa...

Saeed has loads listed for the 9.3x64 in the reloading section of this forum..

Hi Snowman!
I have a Wildcat on the 9.3x62 a 366IHMagnum
(9.3x64BR) Quiet similar with your 9.3x64.We are 8 hunters using this wildcat and we have loads of data on several loads and bullets in this gun.
I have tested VithaVuori135/140/150/160/
N550 (and the others Nc and Norma Powders) among these I have found out that the VithaVuori 150 and the N550 is best in my gun we have tested from 74-79gr V150
and up to 83gr V550 on bullets from 250-300gr
The bullets are 294gr RWS TUG/286gr Alaska/257gr RWS/250/300gr Swift A-frame/
252gr C-Cure/270gr Speer/286gr Woodleigh/
286gr Barnes X/286 Nosler and my Favorite for Moose hunt is the Woodleigh 286gr loaded with 74-77gr V150.More then 30 Moose is killed with this load with very good result.
The Rifles are Husqvarna 1640 and BRNO ZG47
with 24" barrels

I have a 9.3x64 - haven't shot any game with it yet but it is a very good shooter. It has a Heym, hammer forged barrel, 65cm long.

By the way, if any of you have any RWS factory loads to spare, Nosler needs about 10 to calibrate their pressure gun. That's all they need, then they will soon after publish data for the 9.3x64.

Snowman - Just a followup to WSJ's reply above...

The A-Square Reloading manuals are still available from Sinclair Intl. I just bought one back in April for 29.95 + S/H.
