MarkX scope bases?????
Everybody lists bases for the FN mauser but not the MarkX. Are these bases interchangeable? same contour, etc?

Thanks,
Terry

Yes they are. I have a commercial FN and Mark X and use the same bases on both.

Weaver lists different bases for the Mark X. I believe 55 and 20A.

There is more than one FN/Mark X Mauser base with the same hole spacing and receiver contour. They differ in profile of the top surface of the base.

I have six Mark X Whitworths and one commercial FN Mauser, and they take the same base whether it is from Weaver, Leupold, Talley, Warne, or Kimber of old. I have all of these and they are interchangeable in hole spacing and receiver contour between my FN and Mark X's.

these guys might be saying the same thing i am about to say, but i ahve a herter's j9, which is the "older version" of the mark x. i was told that any scope mount for "commercial mausers" will fit.

As mentioned above, the usual Weaver bases for Mk X are #20A(front) and #55 (rear). On my Whitworth, I found that a #35 front (thicker than the 20A) was needed in order to make a level mount (front and back). Weaver steel bases are very nice when used with Leupold QR rings.

Maybe some variation in various FN's or Mk X's?

Looking at my single FN and all the Mk X's:

QRW Leupold FN steel 2-piece mounts are nearly identical in heights (front and rear respectively) to the Weaver combo of #55 rear and #20A front. The hole spacing and receiver contour is the same. This Weaver combo is specified for the Mk X, as above.

The Weaver #45 rear with the #46 front is specified for the FN. It is a bit higher at its top surface than the QRW and 55/20A Weaver combos.

I have found that these all work on any of my Mk X's or my FN:

QRW Leupold FN
Weaver 55/20A
Weaver 45/46
Talley FN
Warne FN

They all have the same receiver contour and hole spacing. Different heights of the top surface of the bases are noted so get the right match.

The Weaver #35 and #36 combo fits a Remington 700 and Weatherby Mk V doesn't it?

Some rifles require shims to equalize the base heights, front to rear, regardless.

Try a weaver combo and see what you've got.

Here is the reason I ask, look at the rear base in the picture. You'll notice contour of the rear base and reciever don't match [Mad] I've turned the base around and stiil have the same problem plus the bolt handle hits the base. These are Burris bases, the mounting holes line up and the front fits good but the one kinda worries me. I would guess it's making 60-70% contact. Is that enough?

I have never seen such a sloppy fit in the bases I have used, but I have never used Burris bases on a Mk X nor an FN. I like Burris products, but something ain't Kosher here.

If the heights seem to be good, I would bed the base to the receiver with epoxy such as JB Weld, or just epoxy the base onto the rear receiver with JB Weld, then go shoot it.

If you have no problems getting the scope zeroed in the mid range of the adjustments, then I would be happy with that.

It is easy to remove the epoxy/JB Weld with low heat from a torch and a bronze/brass bristle brush without marring the action or base.

If there are elevation problems, shims can be used to fix it. With your bases, you have a lot of external windage adjustmnet added onto the internal scope windage adjustment.

Or try another base. Either way, you can make it work.
