MikeMichalskiRemington Model 14 Question
Just acquired a model 14 .30 Remington. There is a screw on the side of the receiver that looks like a take down screw (large head with knurled edges). Is it a take down? I don't want to screw anything up. Maybe take to a smith?

Recoil RobThat is a takedown screw. Unscrew, pull out until it stops. Hold the butt in one hand and the receiver in the other. Push butt towards muzzle and down at the same time, it will slide off the receiver.

MikeMichalskiThanks, that is most helpful. I must be uncoordinated but it moves a little but does not come apart. Don't want to force anything and leaving for a fishing trip shortly, so I'll suspend activity now and try next week...Mike

Recoil RobHave the action closed and cocked like the diagram says?
... and unloaded...

Lord FrithPerhaps a bit more than just "unloaded" as we all know our guns are when being worked on.

SR4759Pull back and down on the butt stock.
You may have to wiggle it a little while to loosen it up. Due to storing rifles on their butts old oil and lube drains into the joint and gums it up.

MikeMichalskiWell, thanks for the advice but still no go. A little wiggle but it feels like a solid stop as I push down. Tried pushing butt end forward and down and pulling back and down. Even put a little Kroil on the seam but still no luck.

MikeMichalskiWell, it appears the Kroil worked (tnx SR4759) and it came apart (thanks Recoil Rob). Really neat. Can't wait to shoot. I've got dies and .308 bullets but no factory ammo. Anyone know where I can find some?

I may have a box or two, a hassle to ship from here, but I can dig around if you want.
