Hard Chrome Finish

I have several blued Rem 700's I want to get refinished. I would like to go with a matte silver finish. I've seen an action that was "hard chromed" and really liked it. Any opinions on this process and recommendation for a place to get it done?? Thanks

I've heard good things about Accurate Plating and Weaponry, and I've seen some work done by Robar Technologies. Both first-rate outfits in my opinion.

My hunting rifles have the Robar NP3 treatment...absolutely the best, non-reflective finish available. Really like the fact that almost doesn't need any lubricant it is so slick.

Hello,
I have a working knowledge of metal finsihing so a word of advice. Make sure "hard chrome" is what you want. Genuine "hard chrome" is not a decorative finish, it is, rather, more of an industrial finsih. It can, in fact, be rather ugly, even when done correctly. Genuine "hard chrome" can bee seen on the side of such things as the rods in hydraulic cylinders, or the bottom of some clothes irons. It is very hard (Over 70 Rockwell c) but not, usually, very pretty, unless other stuff is added, which will run up the $$$$$.

Have you thought about contacting Remington? After all, they built the gun, and they have, from what I understand, a fairly decent custom shop that can do just about anything.

I have seen several "hard chrome" rifles and the solor is like slightly weathered aluminum lawn furniture. I am considering it for a camper gun where physical "mistreatment" is much more of a consideration than "pretty".

I've been thinking of the NP3 for several "training" handguns, revolvers and pistols. I'd like a very low maintenance and durable finish inside and out for what will become "heirloom" teaching .22LR, .32 S&W Long, .38 Spec., and .45s. Have you banged yours around yet? I have wondered about gunleather and table wear of NP3.

Nothing (and I do mean nothing) beats the carbide/ceramic matrix that Heacock Metal and Machine can put on. Much more durable than any chrome. Do a Dogpile.com search and call and ask them about it.
