In a topic below, it was suggested a couple times that I rechamber my 416 Taylor to the Remington version. There was some discussion about replacing the magazine parts and machining a bit of the rear bridge in order to allow proper ejection of spent brass (and possibly unfired cartridges.)
So, if all that work is done, would this be the same action as Winchester uses for their 375H&H, 416 Rem, 458 Lott, and 470 Capstick rifles?
Could this "originally a 300 Win Mag" action become a 458 Lott, etc?
I do believe the scope mount screw holes are different. Is there anything else?
Thanks!

The actions only come in two flavors 1.) Short. 2.) Long. The long action can handle a max COL of 3.60" - 3.65". You will undoubtedly have to change/modify your magazine box and maybe the follower.
I do not know what your rifle started out as, but here is all I did to make my 458 Winnie into a 458 Lott. Obviously had it rechambered, removed the spacer from the back face of the magazine box, and finally welded a spacer to the back of the magazine follower. Guess what it worked just fine. As a matter of fact, that rifle last I knew lived in Alaska. I sold it a number of years ago. If your rifle was a belted magnum to begin with you should be able to get by as I did with the Lott conversion.
Having said all that I am sure that many of the much more "knowledgeable" will tell you that what I just said is impossible. Just remember that all we are talking about is a length change. The action itself is long enough and that includes the bottom metal.

The actions are identical in that the "standard"action is altered to become the 375.
Actually, the current M70s in 7mm Rem already have the 375 bolt stop and the 375s have the 416 Rigby bolt stop.
Winchester use to block the magazine for the 7mm and the bolt stopped at the top of the magazine block.
However,in the current rifles the magazine block tapers at the top to meet the back of the magazine block and the bolt when pulled back stops at the rear of the magazine box. This also produces a "ramp" effect forloading te magazine.
The 375s have a small ramp just behind the box so the case slips into the magaine without catching the back. At least that is the theory
A friend of mine has a 7mm Rem and we made some 375s up with 300 Hornadies seated deep enough to fit the magazine. They fed out perfectly, although obviously we could not full chamber them.
Some push feed 7mm/300/338 models are more difficult for 375 as the rear of the rails curves in. Also I found the push feeds when fitrted up for375s would not work properly as often the cartridges would jump out of the magazine and that is with a 375 magazine and follower, not a magazine with the block removed.
I think changing a standard magnum such as 7mm to 416 Rem would be smooth sailing since both are straight sided cases.
