I just came across a 1917 enfield sporterized(poorly)& stamprd on the bbl is .300LGS it came with half a box of .300 H&H
with 10 fire formed cases. It sure looks like a .300 WBY? I will get out the cerosafe and make a casting. Ever hear of a .300LGS?

tsturmAfter casting the chamber, this is a .300 Weatherby. This rifle was built in the late 40's early 50's maybe someone coppyed the .300WBY ??

The 300 Weatherby is basically an improved 300 H&H, there where many wildcat rounds back then and even today that resemble the 300 Weathery but using different shoulders and taper when forming 300 H&H.

Bubba JohnThe old wildcatters did some interesting things 50-60 years ago. I bought a 98 mauser at auction that had 8mm Magnum stamped on the barrel. After making a cerrosafe cast, it proved to a close copy of a 8mm-06 Ackley, but about .007 larger in the shoulder. Original military stepped barrel, and a outstanding shooter. For a price tag of $150.The man who built this rifle probably never heard of P.O. Ackley and thought he had come up with an original idea.

dan belisleI don't remember the details, but I remember reading an article that spoke of other gunsmiths before Weatherby using the radiused shoulder ideas. Perhaps this was one of their efforts. FWIW - Dan
