Need a recoil lug?
Guys,

Getting ready to start a 9,3x62 on a VZ.24 action. Is another "practical build." Will have a Timney trigger, a Beuhler safety, scope bases, and a matte blue finish. Will be bedded into a cheap Fajens synthetic stock. I expect it will be OK looking, but very practical.

Does this fella need a recoil lug on the barrel?

I'd say no. I know of several 338-06 and 35 Whelen rifles built in the same manner as you describe. No extra lugs and I haven't seen any need for one. The 9.3x62 is no big thumper when it comes to recoil, tho anything on the receiving end might disagree Wink

Not in my opinion.

I've been shooting my 9.3x62 Mauser bolt gun in a wood stock without an extra lug for over 30 years. Despite humidity/temp changes from 2% RH to 100% RH and -60 F to +126 F, it hasn't shot its way out of the stock yet.

I don't know about an inexpensive composite stock, some of them can be pretty flimsy feeling, but would guess it should be fine.

My country gal's just a moonshiner's daughter, but I love her still.
